Murat Akkoc is a Partner at Merit Law, LLP, where he advises clients on Turkish law and
international human rights matters. He is registered as a Foreign Legal Consultant with
the Supreme Court of New York and is authorized to provide legal advice on Turkish law
in the United States. Murat is admitted to practice law in Türkiye.
Murat brings extensive experience in Turkish law across a broad range of legal matters,
with a particular focus on criminal defense, human rights, and international legal
proceedings. He represents clients before the European Court of Human Rights and
United Nations Working Groups, and has significant experience in INTERPOL Red Notice
removal matters, a specialized and high-stakes area of international law that requires
navigating complex procedures across multiple jurisdictions. His practice covers a broad
range of Turkish legal matters, making him a comprehensive resource for individuals and
businesses dealing with legal issues in Türkiye.
Since 2014, Murat has dedicated a significant part of his practice to fighting human rights
violations, representing individuals whose fundamental rights have been infringed under
Turkish and international law. Throughout his career, he has also provided pro bono legal
support to clients who could not otherwise access legal representation.
Murat began his legal career following his graduation from Istanbul University School of
Law in 2010 and completion of the 12-month legal internship required for admission to
the Istanbul Bar Association. He has been an active member of the Istanbul Bar since
2011.
